The LG shows are larger than the local shows and the judging and rating requirements are stricter. Landesgruppen Sieger and Siergerin titles are awarded. SG = (Sehr Gut) Very Good.  This is the highest rating in the Young Dog and Youth Class, for those dogs that fully conform to the SV breed standards.

In August of 2012 Sandro was ranked SG42 youth male in the world at the Sieger Show (BSZS) in Ulm Germany, the pinnacle of GSD conformation shows.

Grandson  to  legendary  Champion

VA1 Zamp Vom Thermodos

The legend that is ZAMP...

Young Lisa Dieterich was only 8 years old when Zamp was born, nonetheless it was she who picked him out from the litter, Lisa has often recounted that, "when he was young he was a no good dog, very long and croup was not good also” When asked why she chose Zamp as a puppy,  she replied, “I just loved him the most because he was the one who was fat and always wanted to sleep”

In October 2002 at the age of 10mths Zamp was entered into his first show at Heroldsberg near Nurnberg and Zamp gained the  grade of very promising taking 1st place in the baby class.  During the following year and in readiness for the forthcoming Sieger show, Zamp was vigorously campaigned; he remained unbeaten with a show record of 10 first places.  The remainder of his story is recorded in historic archives of the SV when at the Bundessieger held in Ulm SV judge Herr Bernhard Norda awarded him SG1 and title of 2003 Junghund Sieger. Returning to the city of Ulm in 2005 Zamp presented his first progeny group having being at stud for the short period of 18mths (this is due to SV rule of no propagation allowed prior to 2yrs of age) all offspring were only aged between 12-18mths, nonetheless the sheer class and future promise was evident.

In 2006 the Sieger Show was held in Oberhausen where in glorious sunshine Zamp presented progeny for the 2nd time and a more awesome progeny group had not been seen from any sire to date. Paraded around the packed stadium to rapturous applause there were even certain sections of the crowd seen to be giving the group a standing ovation. The show had never witnessed a showing of such affection or widespread approval for any sire and his group of progeny. The next day during a torrential down pouring of rain Herr Sheerer judging the Adult Class moved Zamp up one place from his initial 2nd position into 1st here we had another great moment in Sieger history as with arm outstretched in the air his now 20yr old handler Julia, clad in soaking white tracksuit waved constantly to the cheering crowd whilst somehow managing to keep control of Zamp and her feet from slipping as she continued to gait him around the saturated ring.

After his win at the Bundessieger Show, Zamp attended the 2006 World Show held in Dortmund when taking the lead herself this time, Lisa steered him all the way to Best In Show and to the title of World Sieger.  Funnily enough, despite all his other major wins and coveted VA titles this win, at an All breed show in Dortmund (albeit the world show), is the only one recognized by the British Kennel Club as his qualifying entry to Crufts 2008 where his attendance lent for more history in the making. Here a trilogy of firsts started to unfold a first for Reinhard, Sigrid & Lisa entering British Shores, a first for a German Sieger being exhibited at Crufts and therefore a first time any British judge had the privilege of judging one. As we all know he came, he saw and he conquered and is so far the only dog to be awarded a Commemorative Achievement Medal from the British Breed Council of Clubs.

What BSZS Judges have said about Zamp

Judges report BSZS 2006:
VA 1 [Ov. 3- Dev. 3+] (c) Werner Dalm
Breeding judge Heinz Scheerer:

The winner is a large, medium-bodied, full-bodied, remarkably type and expressive dog. He has very good body proportions, a strong appealing head with good mask. Distinctive, high withers, straight firm back, very good location and length of the croup. The scapula is of correct length and correct position with unattached upper arm, the hindquarters have very good angulation with wide legs, balanced advantages and lower chest, straight front, slightly toed treadling. The movement is powerful and dynamic launched by the hindquarters and transmitted over the back with the long-reaching forehand. The courses are generally harmonious, flowing and very efficient. In step and trotting he moves at all times sublime, showing a very good presentation and very good structural strength. The dog has a lot of charisma and a very good building harmony. Pigmentation and building harmony showing an improvement to his father and grandfather.  Zamp is very much in demand by breeders and was able to meet expectations regarding the offspring with his now second, very impressive progeny group with 55 featured animals. Of these, 1 bitch already rated VA and some animals were placed in the leading group in the GHKL and the lower classes. For a winner, he has met the requirements imposed on him Geno-typically and the further development in his appearance and asked demonstrable proof. Best joint findings. Coming Blutlich about Quantum and Dux, maternal over Esko Danish court is best-established lines. Here I recommend, inter alia, in the pairing pigment full bitches and not those which are on the upper size limit supply. Both bloodlines are dominant for very good anatomical systems. The inbreeding ancestors here in the 5th generation, provide enough space.

Big, strong , very typey , high withers , harmonious topline , very good croup in length and location, very good angulation of the fore and hind legs , balanced chest proportions , correct front . Just kicking it shows strong gait with plenty of extra space . Safe nature , TSB pronounced ; Loosen . VI . Particularly typey very non-positive and full-bodied stud dog with excellent building harmony and a lot of charisma.

Great-grandson to ELITE (back to back 2008 and 2009 BSZS) World Champion

2X VA1 Vegas du Haut Mansard

What BSZS judges have said about Vegas

Judgingreport BSHZS 2009:

VA 1 Zuchtrichter: Reinhardt Meyer:

About Medium Large, strong and substantial, very expressive raises the winner Vegas is again, with a high withers, straight back and a long well supported croup. He has a pointed rear angulation, the hocks should be somewhat firmer. Very good bending of the forehand, balanced chest proportions and a straight front. Rear closely and front straight movement he shows powerful supply and free precedence. The Best Junior in 2005, in 2006 and 2007 already rated VA, emerged in 2008 as the winner, documented still in an impressive way, that an medium-sized dog can also be strong, rich and geprägestark. Its up to the fifth generation of inbreeding free pedigree and the fact that it is free from currently heaped patrilines was repeatedly mentioned. His excellent constitution and vitality, its outstanding presentation and in a special way his new high-quality progeny group with the winner of GHKL females, two other VA ratings, the young dog best youth best and a whole range among the top placed descendants, impressively prove the high breeding value this males. In addition to the anatomical advantages that owns Vegas, it was again, like last year, a far above the average power to be certified at the TSB review. Vegas is the deserved winner of 2009! Outstanding results at the TSB examination (Top 19).

Exciting News!

We have had a very busy few months! We have been working with all four of our dogs to get them introduced to each other, and their new home. Apparently, they love it! We have 3 dogs that are currently pregnant. The first litter is due December 2nd. We are so excited to spend this Holiday season with all of the new members of our family.

We pride ourselves on not just breeding dogs, but loving each and every one of the beautiful creatures that come into our home. We also make sure that the puppies will be going to a home where that love will continue. The German Shepherds we breed come from a long line of Champion dogs, as seen in their pedigrees. Raising a champion dog takes not only patience, obedience and training, but also love and respect. We make sure that all of our puppies are brought into this world with that.

Make sure to check our website for information on the puppies! http://www.konkurrenzloskennel.com/

Also check out our Facebook page for more pictures as the puppies grow!

How to keep your dogs (pets) safe during HURRICANE season - Pt. I

Hurricane Preparedness

Pt. I

We are located in Houston, which has been known to be affected by a hurricane now and again. Many of our readers, friends, and puppy purchasers live in other areas that can experience a hurricane. Part of being a responsible pet owner - is having a safety plan that INCLUDES your pet. We have taken some tips from the Hurricane Pet Rescue Organization.

HURRICANE TIPS FOR KEEPING YOUR PETS SAFE!

1) If you need to evacuate, PLEASE TAKE YOUR ANIMALS WITH YOU! HAVE A PLAN, MEMORIZE IT AND STICK TO IT. DO A SIMULATED EMERGENCY DRILL WITH YOUR FAMILY AND PETS. PICK A LEADER, FOLLOW THE LEADER AND DO NOT ARGUE WITH THE LEADER. KNOW SEVERAL PLACES OF EXIT. DO NOT ENCLOSE YOURSELF AND YOUR PETS TO THE POINT THAT YOU CANNOT GET OUT.

2) In the event that you cannot take the animal where you are going, please make arrangements to board your animal in a safe and reputable boarding facility or vet office INLAND.

3) If you are going to a shelter with your animal please make sure you call your veterinarian beforehand so you can get a copy of your pets vet records and proof of vaccinations. Most shelters will NOT take your pet, if the pet doesn't have at least a rabies shot. Also, at shelters that accept pets, they are many other pets besides yours, so it is IMPERATIVE that your pet(s) is up to date on shots,
This way she// he will be protected from diseases.

Don't wait until the last minute to give your pets their vaccinations as vaccinations can take up to 2 weeks to take up to 2 weeks to be effective.

4) If you are packing for you, please park for your pets as well, you don't need to take the cat tree or the dog house, but please pack a few familiar things for your pet(s) that has the smell of his house. Especially if you go to a shelter. Taking a few toys to entertain the pet is a must, perhaps a familiar blanket will be good too. Rescue Remedy to relieve stress will be a good idea to have in hand.

You can pick up Rescue Remedy at any health food store, is a natural stress reliever with no side effects, it can be used as needed and it works great (DO NOT get the Rescue Remedy pills, those can be toxic)

Besides a carrier you are going to need a cage/crate so your pet can be more comfortable while at the shelter. Make sure the crate/cage is big enough where the pet can comfortably stand and litter box (for cats), food and water dishes can also fit in. It will be a good idea checking out crates and cages now and not to leave it for the last minute.

5) Getting your pets microchipped is highly advisable, but if the pet is not microchipped yet please put ID TAGS on your pets NOW. Although ID tags are not always the best as collars break and there go the ID tags. Even if your pet is microchipped having ID tags on your pets as well is always a good idea.

ID tags and microchips can prevent your animals from getting killed in case they ever get lost and end up in a shelter! Or in case of a Mother Nature Disaster if they get lost, finding their owner will be somewhat better.

If your pet is a cat please use a breakaway collar.

6) If your pet takes medications please make sure you have enough to get you through the storm and at least a 3 week supply for the aftermath. If you haven't yet, this will be a good time to ask your vet for extra medications, antibiotics are always good to have them handy in case your pet gets sick.
In case of a storm if you lose power there will be no refrigeration, so pills are always best.

7) Buy at least food and water supply for your pet to last you for at least 2 weeks. Bottled water is best as tap water may be contaminated after a storm (listen to authorities for warning of contaminated water).
Contaminated water causes disease in people as well as pets. If you cannot afford bottle water for your pets then you can purified the water by following these simple steps:
Hold water at a rolling boil for 1 minute to kill bacteria.
If you can't boil water, add 1/8 teaspoon (approximately 0.75 ml) of newly purchased, unscented liquid household bleach per gallon of water.
Stir the water well, and let it stand for 30 minutes before you use it. You can use water-purifying tablets instead of boiling water or using bleach.

After the storm, disinfect your pet’s toys that have come in contact with water. Use a solution of 1 cup of bleach in 5 gallons of water to disinfect the toys. Let toys air dry after cleaning.

Some toys, such as stuffed animals and cannot be disinfected; they should be discarded.

8) If you are riding out the storm at your home. Place all your animals in one room (if possible) and place carriers. collars & leashes in the same room so you will have them handy when you need them.
If things do get ugly, DO NOT PANIC, Stay as calm as you can be. If you panic your animals will panic too. Remember that pets can sense human emotions!

Please have rope and an ax (in case you need to break an opening to get to safety), a flashlight, a SMALL bag with medications, your id and your keys all in one place, so if you need to get out and lose power you will know where everything is.

Remember, Pets sense Mother Nature disasters days before any radar can pick them up, so they may be a bit stress already without anybody noticing.  Keeping calm is key!

9) If you have no choice but to leave your pets alone (NOT ADVISABLE).

DO NOT CHAIN YOUR PET TO ANYTHING.

DO NOT TRANQUILIZE YOUR PET, PETS NEED TO BE ALERT TO RELAY ON THEIR
INSTINCTS.

DO NOT CONFINE YOU PETS TO A ROOM.

DO NOT CONFINE YOUR PETS TO A CRATE.

PLAN FOR YOUR PET

GIVE THEM EASY ACCESS TO HIGH PLACES, IN CASE OF FLOODING.

Leave plenty of dry food and water and put a dish of water under the dish of dry food so ants will not get in the food. Put as many litter boxes as you can all over your house, Wee Wee pads for dogs or newspaper. If you have an answering machine DO call your animals and let them hear your voice while you are away.

Do NOT leave lamps on, if you want to leave a light on for your pet, please leave a ceiling fixture on.
If things get bad, lamps can tip over, if the area is flooded your pets can be electrocuted, same scenario with fans DO NOT leave any fans on. Unplug all appliances, yes including your refrigerator, if you have a gas stove, please shut off the main line.

Do not leave wet food for you pets because it will spoil and your pet will get sick.

If you board up your house, please leave an exit for your pets, perhaps a screened cracked window chances are that your house has insurance, so if your roof blows away you are covered but your pets won't be.

If there is a flood and the water rises up to your roof (like it did with Katrina), having an open window or 2 it will give your pet a chance to break free.

10) Good luck and be safe with your 4 legged little ones.

German Pedigree

Have you ever seen a German Pedigree? Have you ever tried to read ANYTHING in German?! Well - it is not an easy task. Since our dogs come directly from Germany - they have Official FCI German Pedigrees. It took many hours with Google Translator and different "Champion title charts" and "German abbreviations" to figure out HOW to read a pedigree.

I wanted to assemble a "cheat" sheet for anyone else facing this task. All sources are given.  am not an expert, just offering some advice!

The pedigree should be 3 pages in length. Your dog's information will be listed on the first page, with 4 generations of family history on the next 2 pages.

The first column listed under the heading Eltern or Parents. First will be the Father or Vatter - sometimes listed as 1V. Then below that will be the Mother or Mutter - listed as 2M.

The second column, großeltern or Grandparents will feature the Vatters and Mutters parents.

On the last page will be the urgroßeltern or Great-Grandparents, and the ururgroßeltern or Great-Great Grandparents, respectively.
